Skiing in Kranjska Gora has a long tradition. The first ski lift (Preseka) was opened in November 1948. It was 960 m long with the height difference of 265 meters and with the capacity to transport 170 skiers per hour. But at that time the ski lift was operating in a very different way – the skiers threw the anchor and each one had to be picked up and hang on a special hook.
After ten years the first chairlift (Vitranc I and II) was built but at first » few supported the project of the chairlift, as the opinion prevailed that it was meant first of all for the competitors and not for the development of tourism (from the book of Aleš Guček: »In the trails of the prehistorical times«). Soon, however people realised her value and since then every year a new chairlift has been built and in 1980 they were already eighteen.

 

Today Kranjska Gora has 14 ski lift and 5 chairlifts, four of them are 4seated and one is 2seated. The trails are of different difficulty, from easy, medium and difficult trails.

-  The ski lift Kekec will be replaced by the 4seated chairlift with better capacity (prospectively in 2007)
-  Enlargment of the snow making system in Podkoren (prospectively in 2007)
-  Snowboarding park (prospectively in 2007)
-  Reconstruction, modernization and reopening of the ski slope from the top of Vitranc
-  1seated chairlift Vitranc II will be replaced with a modern one.
